A useful starting point
China market entry needs a separate assessment of platform eligibility, local operations and the complete purchase journey. Reusing an English Google-and-Meta plan is not an appropriate default.
Audience and market fit
Distinguish mainland China from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan in the brief. Confirm customer location, language, the operating entity and delivery route. Cross-border product sales and local services can require very different arrangements.
Channel planning
Evaluate Baidu search, WeChat relationship journeys and commerce ecosystems such as Tmall or JD.com against the specific offer. Confirm account eligibility and any local operating partner before planning spend. Platform access and category approval should remain explicit dependencies until verified.
Conversion and operations
Use locally reviewed Chinese copy for product names, claims and customer questions. Test deployed pages from the intended region, including images, scripts, forms and customer support handoffs. A successful load from India is not evidence that the same journey works in mainland China.
What to measure
- Qualified enquiries by platform
- Approved marketplace orders
- Return-adjusted contribution
What your market brief should contain
Share your exact offer, ideal customer, available languages, service coverage and existing sales process. Include evidence from earlier campaigns and the conversion you want to improve. The brief should identify unresolved launch requirements, not conceal them behind a revenue forecast.
Before launch, agree the baseline, reporting period and decision owner. Review customer quality and fulfilment alongside channel metrics. An inexpensive click or enquiry is not useful when the next step cannot be delivered.
Should China use the same channels as the US?
No. Start with a market-entry decision brief covering eligibility, distribution, payments, fulfilment, support and measurement. Select channels after these requirements are understood.
