A useful starting point
Japanese-language product information, reliable fulfilment and clear after-sales support belong in the acquisition plan from the beginning.
Audience and market fit
Choose a product category and buying situation. A specialist business tool and a consumer lifestyle product need different proof and distribution. Research how customers describe the problem in Japanese instead of directly translating an English keyword list.
Channel planning
Consider the fit of Amazon Japan, Rakuten and Yahoo! Japan Shopping alongside direct distribution. Each route has its own operating requirements. A listing on every marketplace is not automatically a useful launch strategy.
Conversion and operations
Assign a Japanese-language reviewer and explain specifications, delivery, returns and support before checkout. Include service capacity in the launch plan so new demand does not lead to unanswered customer questions.
What to measure
- Product-page engagement
- Approved orders by marketplace
- Repeat purchase
What your market brief should contain
Share your exact offer, ideal customer, available languages, service coverage and existing sales process. Include evidence from earlier campaigns and the conversion you want to improve. The brief should identify unresolved launch requirements, not conceal them behind a revenue forecast.
Before launch, agree the baseline, reporting period and decision owner. Review customer quality and fulfilment alongside channel metrics. An inexpensive click or enquiry is not useful when the next step cannot be delivered.
Is translated English copy enough?
Translation is a starting point. The buying journey, product questions and support expectations also need local review.
